Bangalore: Several development projects, including a flyover at Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle on Padmanabhanagar Ring Road, restoration of Dorekere and Uttarahalli lakes, along with the ‘Green Ambassadors’ project, were initiated by CM B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday at Padmanabhanagar.
The CM, who spoke after laying the foundation stone for BBMP’s development work, said Rs 7,500 crore had been earmarked for the upkeep of Bangalore. “Metro work is moving at a fast pace and the government has released Rs 1,200 crore in the past 10 months for the project.’’ The CM also stated that nearly 160 lakes would be rejuvenated soon.
“We have distributed rights deeds to 16,000 people and will hand over another 16,000 under the Nemmadi Narayana project. We are also thinking of developing new layouts under BDA to provide homes for everybody,’’ he added.
GREEN AMBASSADORS
The ‘Green Ambassadors’ initiative was launched with several schoolchildren. “These green ambassadors give feedback to BBMP on self-addressed postcards provided to them, on various things around them and the need to set them right.’’
The authorities have to take action based on the feedback, and BBMP also rewards them for the best suggestions. The programme aims to reach out to parents and students to inculcate a strong civic sense. Besides, the BBMP is also aiming to plant five lakh saplings in 2010-11, with the help of the public, especially children.
KITTUR FLYOVER
A flyover at Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle — connecting NH209 and SH17 — will be constructed along Ring Road axis. The estimated cost is Rs 32.3 crore. Once built, it is expected to ease up traffic. The total length of the flyover will be 352 metres; it will have four lanes.
DOREKERE LAKE
Located in Rajarajeshwarinagar area
Total area of lake is 27 acres, 23 guntas — water body of 81,306 sqm and 1,400-metre length of tank bund
Restoration work includes: Strengthening of bund, desilting, forming an island, creating wetland, a 1,22,000-cubic metre capacity water tank, walkways, view deck, immersion tank, a few gazebos, toilets
Project estimated to cost Rs 6.2 crore
UTTARAHALLI TANK
Total area 16 acres and 16 guntas
Developmental work includes: Desilting tank, paving walkway with cobblestones, constructing culvert and security shed
Project estimated to cost Rs 3.76 crore
