Underpasses to be completed in 3 months

Underpasses to be completed in 3 months
Bangalore, Nov 9, DH News Service:

Stung by severe criticism over the enormous delay in completing the Kadirenahalli and Puttenahalli underpasses, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has decided to complete the works within the next three months.

“The delay may appear inorindate, but happened as the work hit a major road block,” said a BBMP official.

The completion of Kadirenahalli underpass was delayed because of a huge rock whereas at Puttenahalli underpass, the spilling underground water came in the way of timely completion of the project. Now the BBMP has decided to get the projects completed in the next three months.

Instructions

The BBMP commissioner reportedly gave standing instructions to the contractor as well as the engineers concerned, to see that work goes on in three shifts and the works are completed within the new deadline set by him. Regarding the Puttenahalli Underpass, sources said if the underpass was not completed then arrangements would be made to ready at least one line for vehicular movement.

Once these projects are completed, the BBMP would undertake one of the most ambitious projects of the City - the construction of three-tier road network at the Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle near the DG Service Station.

“This will be a unique project in Bangalore. There will be an ordinary surface road and above it would be a flyover connecting the ring road with Kadirenahalli Cross. We have plans to construct another flyover above the flyover that links the road from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) to DG Nursing Home at Padmanabha Nagar,” said a BBMP official.

The first flyover connecting the ring road with Kadirenahalli Cross would be constructed at as cost of about Rs 22 crores. The total length of the flyover would be around 352 meters, and its width would range from 15.3 meters to 16.9 meters. It would be around 4.3 meters high from the ground and will have four lanes. The deadline set for this project is 12 months, said the BBMP sources.
