Metro splits package, cuts cost

BANGALORE: In a major decision concerning Namma Metro’s underground construction, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., (BMRCL) on Thursday decided to split the package into two in its effort to reduce the cost by attracting more bidders. The board of directors of BMRCL, which met in New Delhi, decided to separate the Majestic-City Market stretch (North-South Corridor) of the underground section and the Majestic-Cricket Stadium (East-West Corridor) stretch, according to BMRCL Chairman M. Ramachandran.

The tender for the separated stretch would be recalled and while fresh bids would be invited for the separated package, BMRCL would continue to negotiate with the already short-listed lowest bidder for the Majestic-Cricket Stadium stretch, he said.

The bid would be finalised in three months and BMRCL would ask the successful bidder to strictly adhere to the schedule, he said.
