Bangalore: With plans to shut down the KSRTC bus stand in Majestic area to facilitate work on the Mero Rail project, there’d be some inconvenience to passengers. But KSRTC MD Gaurav Gupta sought to downplay it, saying it would be similar to those in places like M G Road and CMH Road. “We’re trying to work it out so that inconvenience can be minimized,” he said.
While refusing to go into specifics, he confirmed that not all services from the Majestic bus stand would be stopped.
“Due to land limitation, the handling capacity of the bus stand will come down and some movement of buses will be affected,” Gupta said. The depots will be gradually shifted as well. For the moment, several services will shift to the Shanthinagar bus terminal, though in the long run, Gupta said, other depots will be required.
Assuring an organized shifting, Gupta said a detailed schedule for every bus would be chalked out and communicated to the public.
The shifting will be gradual and several buses will leave from locations mentioned by Ashoka on Thursday — Peenya, Hebbal, Mysore Road, Shanthinagar and NGEF, apart from Majestic itself. About 2,800 buses, on an average, operate from Majestic now. Officials emphasize there’s no immediate threat to services and shifting to other locations will be gradual.
