Child's death: No action initiated against BBMP engineer yet
Bangalore: Nov 8, DH News Service

B C Adarsh, father of two-year-old Diganth, who died after a shaky concrete bench he was sitting on upturned at a park in Jalahalli on Saturday, breaks down on remembering his jovial child.

But the police seem to be doing little against the BBMP Assistant Executive Engineer beyond registering a case of causing death due to negligence (304 A of IPC) against him.

“Once the post-mortem report comes on Monday evening, we will take appropriate action against the erring official as per law. We would interrogate the eyewitnesses including some passersby to establish the chain of events leading to the child’s death,” Inspector M S Satyanarayan told Deccan Herald.

When asked about the family’s charge that the police had initially allowed for the child’s burial without an autopsy, but backed off on the doctor's insistence, he asserted that they acted as per law and did not slip up in any way. “We received the complaint only after 12:45 pm, so we rushed to the burial ground and prevented the last rites from being carried out before an autopsy,” he maintained. Efforts to contact the BBMP official concerned were futile.
