Residents in most parts of Bangalore, including the key central business district, went without power for most of Sunday. The power cut was due to extensive maintenance work undertaken by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL). The power cuts are expected to happen every weekend in different parts of the city due to maintenance work by KPTCL.
Power was restored only at about 5 pm, depriving the residents of an enjoyable weekend.
M Mahadev, chief engineer, KPTCL, told DNA that maintenance work was being undertaken at the Brindavan sub-station. "At HAL sub-station, there was voltage and reliability improvement going on. At Remco sub-station, power was shut down as a tower was to be installed for the Metro works," said Mahadev.
While in most areas the power was cut for 12 hours between 5am and 5pm, others had to go without power from 8am to 5pm.
The main areas affected were Mahatma Gandhi Rd, Brigade Rd, Vittal Mallya Rd, Richmond Rd, Church Street, Kasturba Rd, Lavelle Rd, Ashok Nagar, Margosa Rd, Reddy Palya, Brunton Rd, Primrose Rd, Dickenson Rd, Ulsoor Rd, Cambridge Rd, Kodihalli, HAL Airport Road, Indiranagar, Texas Instruments, Airport, Airport Rd, Tata Housing, Vibuthipura, Kaggadasapura, Amarjyothi Layout, Golden Enclave, Manipal Hospital, Britannia, RMZ , Intel, KGA, Royal Arcade, Domlur Layout and surrounding areas.
Third and fourth stages of Peenya in northern Bangalore and Mysore Rd in the south-west were also forced to go without power due to KPTCL's maintenance and installation works.
