KPL brings traffic in the city to a halt

KPL brings traffic in the city to a halt

The Karnataka Premier League (KPL) got underway on Wednesday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium amid much fanfare on the ground. But it caused severe traffic gridlocks on the roads around the stadium.
The day 1 of the Tweny20 tourney began with Provident Bangalore (Rural) trouncing Mangalore United. But the highlight of the day was the opening ceremony, which saw a breathtaking performance by Yakshagana artistes. The crowd cheered the loudest when the popular Kannada song Huttidhare kannada naadalli hutti beku was played. Cine stars Sudeep, Tejaswini and Suman Ranganathan added more spice to the ceremony.
But the KPL combined with the ongoing Namma Metro works pulverised the city centre. Over 1,000 cars parked in and around the stadium premises for the first two matches, caused traffic jams, as there were no parking space close to the stadium.
