Original land records sought

Original land records sought
Bangalore, DHNS:
The High Court on Friday sought century-old original records related to lands surrounding Hotel Atria on Seshadri Road.

Petitioners Asha Chako and others had challenged the notice issued by the Bangalore DC following the report by senior IAS officer Harish Gowda that some of the residents had trespassed into the Government land.
Counsel for the petitioners, M S Padmarajaiah termed the report as far from truth and contended that the land was obtained from a British named Lance Lots Ricketts in 1905 and was purchased to convert it into a resort for a princess of Mysore. “The consideration was paid from her account and was purchased by the then Diwan of Mysore and was named as Billeau,” he said.
He further submitted that the State Government in 1956 acquired a portion of land and records speak of paying compensation to a person Basavaraj Urs, a member of royal family. This further established the fact that the land belonged to the rulers of Mysore.
A portion of the land was sold to Hotel Atria, former Chief Secretary Shankaranarayana and Meenakshiamma, a relative of the petitioner, who are now residing at the place until the recent notice. Justice Anand Byra Reddy directed that the century-old records related to the land be placed before the Court.
