Bangalore: People will soon get to know the details of development works at the click of a mouse with the State Government and the Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) planning the launch of a website.
“Namma Bengaluru” is expected to go online within a week, providing details of various development works taken up by different agencies in the city, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa announced here on Sunday.
Speaking to presspersons after inspecting development works across the city along with ABIDe members, and reviewing the progress of development works at an ABIDe meeting, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he would inspect the city every Sunday to get a first-hand experience of the progress of various projects and also monitor their quality.
“I have decided to inspect the city every Sunday between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. so that people will not be put to hardship during my visit,” he said.
Development work
He said that about 1,200 development works to be taken up by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) at a cost of Rs. 440 crore would commence from the first week of February.
While the BDA has invited tenders to build eight flyovers and underpasses on Outer Ring Road between Central Silk Board Junction and Hebbal Flyover to make the stretch free from signals, work on the flyovers at Iblur and Agara junctions have commenced.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara (BBMP) had completed 3,630 development works of the planned 9,971 by spending Rs. 393 crore. As much as 50 per cent of the remaining works would be completed by March. The BBMP was also establishing sewage treatment plants in the Vrishabhavathi valley zones, he added.
The Chief Minister said that notification for widening 91 roads of a length of 160 km had been issued, and work on widening 36 km of road had been completed. He made it clear that road widening would be done without causing damage to environment.
Visit
Earlier, Mr. Yeddyurappa, accompanied by ABIDe vice-chairman and MP H.N. Ananth Kumar, Transport Minister R. Ashok, ABIDe convenor Rajeev Chandrashekar, and senior officers, inspected project sites across the city.
The flyover work at Summanahalli on Magadi Road, the railway underpass at Nayandahalli, the Magadi Road-Mysore Road Ring Road work, the Yeshwantpur flyover, the work to widen the road from M.S. Palya to Yelahanka, Seshadri Road, Race Course Road, Palace Road, development of parks at Yelahanka Satellite Town were some of the projects inspected by the Chief Minister.
Senior officials of the BBMP and the BDA briefed the Chief Minister on road widening projects. Mr. Yeddyurappa also had first-hand experience of the progress of works at the construction sites of flyovers, underpasses, ring road and development of parks.
Though the city police had taken care to ensure that minimal traffic disruption occurred during the Chief Minister’s visit, movement of traffic was affected near Yeshwantpur Circle, as the road was blocked for about 15 minutes.
