A sunny day, a bunch of foreigners chatting, some reading books, lovers lost in each other’s arms, amidst luxurious greenery, with the fragrance of flowers all around. Where do you think? Goa or Pondy? Give some points to yourself only if you guess Cubbon Park! With colourful flowers blossoming all around, the park has become a location for sun-starved foreigners to bask in the Bangalore sun.

When Christine McCleave from Coventry, England, and Wke Richardson from America, both studying in a university in Kolkata, came to Bangalore to meet their friends, all they wanted was to enjoy the beauty of the city.

After admiring Vidhana Soudha, they entered Cubbon Park. The charm of the place and the aroma of flowers was a heady surprise and Christine could not resist saying, “Its so damn beautiful. All these flowers make me feel as if I have entered another world.”

At first, both opted to walk around the entire park. But after they entered the area where jacaranda trees were in full bloom, it was too good to resist and they wanted to loll around. The gentle hug of the sun and the smell of flowers was the impetus they needed to start removing their clothes and emerge in colourful underwear to give their bodies a sunbath.

Though their idea was just to enjoy the ambience in full, it was an unexpected treat for the local visitors.

The habitual peeping Toms were delighted. Soon there was a gawking crowd among the bushes. Not just this, commuters on bikes enjoyed the scene to the fullest, stopping their vehicles to admire the ‘beautiful sight’. Unaware of what was going on, the duo had a relaxed time reading books. After spending about two hours in the park, they went on to explore the other parts of Bangalore.

“The weather and the natural beauty of the place left me spellbound. It is just awesome” said Richardson while leaving the park.

The tenor of the author's comments leaves a lot to be desired for. The unfortunate choice of words not only suggests that the author thinks that there is nothing wrong with the offensive staring and the 'peeping Toms' but also suggests that this is completely acceptable. I sincerely suggest that the author keep this in mind when reporting on such issues in the future
