Draft delimitation of BBMP wards evokes objections

Draft delimitation of BBMP wards evokes objections
DH News Service, Bangalore:

The State Government has received as many as 328 objections to the draft delimitation notification, regarding drawing of the boundary for the 147 wards of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

The objections to the draft delimitation notification are now being scrutinised by the zonal officers.
Committee

Sources said the objections are mainly regarding the naming of the wards. The objections were received by the Deputy Commissioner (Urban), BBMP and the government. The committee headed by the DC will be holding a meeting on September 25, to go through the replies filed by the zonal officers.

Once the objections are attended to, then a consolidated report will be sent to the Urban Development Department.

“The report may be sent only in the first of October. After the department issues the final notification, the process of ward reservation will begin. This is a time consuming process. Later, the ball will be in the court of the State Election Commission. The Commission has already said that it would require at least 3 months to make preparations for holding the elections to the Palike,” an officer said.

Polls by October 3

The High Court in July, this year directed the State government to conduct elections within three months. As per the court order, the elections to the BBMP shall be held within October 3.
