Mysore can do IT like B'lore

Mysore can do IT like B'lore
From Kalyan Ray, DH News Service, New Delhi:
After Bangalore, three more Karnataka cities have the potential to emulate its IT success story to become the next IT hubs in the State...

Mysore, Mangalore and Hubli-Dharwad are among the first 50 cities where IT and BPO industry can grow and flourish, says a report prepared by NASSCOM and management consultancy firm A T Kearney on 50 IT destinations in India.

While four metros, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune are the established leaders, the coastal city Mangalore is emerging as one of the key challengers. Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad are next in line.

Releasing the report on Monday, NASSCOM president Som Mittal said development of a few cities had not only put severe pressure on the infrastructure and also led to resource migration. The next set of locations has immense potential if right steps are taken.

“This report will provide useful information on relative attractiveness of various locations to companies who are looking to enter or expand,” he said.

NASSCOM has appealed to the Centre to encourage the development of these areas by extending tax benefit schemes such as software technology parks of India (STPIs) or special economic zones (SEZs) as there are a few of these zones in these locations.

Recently, the Centre extended the STPI scheme for one more year as the scheme that had benefited many small and medium enterprises, was to end in 2008. The report also indicates that even the existing seven centres will see significant growth. But proactive planning and meticulous execution is required to create the infrastructure for supporting this growth.
