The departure of Air India flight IC 957 to Singapore signalled the commencement of operations of the Bengaluru International Airport. In future, all commercial flights will operate from the new airport near Devanahalli.

On the first day, the airport will handle 341 movement-172 arrivals and 169 departures.

At the inauguration, the celebrations was high at the departure longue. The passengers were excited and eagerly waiting to board the inaugural flight.

The passengers welcomed the single check-in process which eliminated the long queues to screen check in luggage.

Many opted for the self check-in kiosks with the help of airline staff. Albert Brunner,CEO of BIAL said that it will strive to set a benchmark for other airports in the country. BIAL further announced that all the check in and departure process met expectations.

The average time taken by a passenger from the terminal building entrance to the aircraft was 15-20 minutes. This included check-in, security check and entering the departure area.
