BANGALORE: Cubbon Park was once the only recreation place for children in Bangalore.

Now, though a number of amusement parks with the latest joy rides have mushroomed, Cubbon Park continues to attract many. The crowd has doubled, thanks to the summer vacation.

Cubbon Park now has new joy rides like the Tora-Tora and the revolving tower, besides the Mary Columbus, Break Dance, Mini Roller Coaster, Peacock Ride and the Merry-go-round, which were renovated recently by the Bal Bhavan Society.

Divya Naryanappa, administrative officer of Cubbon Park, said that all the joy rides have been out-sourced to private agencies. Meanwhile, the famous toy train continues to chug along joyfully across the Park.

“The train gives me a full view and I won’t have to walk to see the glory of the park,” said Siri, a 14-year-old visitor. However, the park isn’t brimming only with joy-ride lovers.

“Since the park rates are quite reasonable, I bring my children often,” said Vani Suresh, a housewife. Sharada, a software engineer brings her children to Cubbon Park due to its central location.

“We do not have the time to visit amusement parks, as they are located on the outskirts,” she said. The cleanliness of the park, however, bothers many concerned about the safety of their children.

“The greenery is why I bring my grandchildren here, besides the fact that it is in the heart of the city. But some initiative should be taken to keep the park clean,” said Thaneswar Sen, senior citizen and frequent Cubbon Park visitor.
