BANGALORE: JUST 30 minutes of heavy downpour in Bangalore South brought down 35 trees and branches, 50 electric poles, 25 sheds, besides water logging in places with knee-deep water and traffic jams on numerous roads.

The Meteorology Department recorded rainfall of 37.1 mm until 8.30 pm at the airport.

EWS PROBLEMS CONTINUE: Of the 1,512 sheds erected in Ejipura after the collapse of the EWS quarters recently, roofs of about 25 sheds were blown away due to strong winds accompanied by heavy rain on Tuesday evening.

Though no injuries were reported, angry residents blocked traffic on Ejipura main road, causing a huge traffic jam.

POWER DISRUPTION: Power supply was disrupted in most parts of Bangalore South due to fallen electric poles and snapping of electric wires, but electricity supply was restored by midnight.

Five electric poles in Banashankari, 25 in Kormangala and 20 poles in BTM Layout and Jayanagar areas were uprooted.

Chaos in B’lore with 30 minutes of rain Light to moderate rainfall is forecast in Mysore, Coorg, Chamarajnagar, Chikmagalur and Bangalore districts, while light rains with partial cloudiness is expected in the remaining parts of the southern and south eastern districts of Karnataka.

Farmers of these districts are advised to take advantage of this rain and take up sowing. The summer tillage can be attended to after the rains.

According to MB Rajegowda of Agrometerology University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), GKVK, cyclonic winds have developed over the Bay of Bengal and are moving in the north-west direction. It is likely to touch the eastern coast in another two days and its influence may be low in Karnataka.

This may cause an impact on southern Karnataka through cloudiness on Tuesday till Friday.
