Tamil movies face KRV ire

Tamil movies face KRV ire
DH News Service,Bangalore:
Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) attacked nine theatres screening Tamil films in the City, in protest against the remarks made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the Hogenakal issue.

Hundreds of KRV members stormed into Nataraj, Balaji, Sharada, Vinayaka, Poornima, Lavanya, Aruna, Super and Ajantha theatres, brought down banners and posters and demanded a halt to the screening of Tamil films.
The KRV attacks began at 11 in the morning and went on till 4 pm.

KRV has warned theatre owners against screening Tamil films until the Hogenakal issue is resolved. Theatres found screening Tamil films will be doing so at their own risk, the vedike said.

The vedike withdrew its protests after the theatre owners assured them that they would not screen Tamil movies.

KRV president Narayana Gowda accused the Karunanidhi government of lobbying with the Centre to implement the Hogenakal project, though the matter is in dispute.

“Tamil Nadu is going ahead, ignoring the law. We have submitted a memorandum to the governor and the advocate-general to take steps to restrain the Karunanidhi government that is taking advantage of the political situation in Karnataka which does not have an elected government,” Gowda added. The vedike has alleged that the UPA led government at the Centre is repeatedly ignoring the interests of the State.

Vedike warns MK

The vedike has demanded that Karunanidhi take back his remarks, failing which cable operators in Karnataka will be asked to stop beaming Tamil channels and public transport buses from Tamil Nadu will not be allowed to ply or enter Karnataka.

Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj also led a protest march against Karunanidhi and PMK leader
Ramadoss at Vidhana Soudha.

Nagaraj warned TN that Karnataka would be forced to launch a massive agitation to include Ooty, Erode, Krishnagiri and Hosur into Karnataka if TN continued to exploit the situation.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopal Krishna told Deccan Herald that the situation is under control.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has said its services to Tamil Nadu will not be disrupted.
Officials from THE Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation said bus services were normal on Monday.
