BANGALORE: People can now have purified drinking water facility at the City railway station for a minimal charge.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Commission (IRCTC) along with the water purifiers Ion Exchange has started a new drinking water facility at the City railway station on Thursday.

Mahesh Mangal, DRM, SWR, along with Deepak Chhabra, ADRM, SWR inaugurated the drinking water vending machine. The water is purified using the reverse osmosis process and is filtered five times before it is used for drinking purpose.

Water is available at the vending machine in three variations like hot, cold and normal. 300 ml of water is priced at Rs 1500 ml at Rs 2, 1 ltr at Rs 3, 2 litres at Rs 6 and 5 litres at Rs 12. However, people should carry their own bottles or they can buy the bottles there at the counter for Rs 3.

Speaking at the occasion, Mahesh Mangal said that the railways will extend this service to other stations also and they are exploring many avenues to provide more services to the traveller.
