Here art meets fine arts
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Basavanagudi will soon boast of a hi-tech auditorium and an art gallery - all rising from the ashes of a one-time dumping yard.

Named ‘Kengal Hanumanthaiah Kala Soudha’, after the architect of Vidhana Soudha and former chief minister, the Rs 4 crore theatre complex on Ramanjaneya Gudda Road has been funded by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

The all wood effect and fully air conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 350, has a 40x30 ft wide stage equipped with 70 different types of lighting, a cyclorama screen and three make up rooms.
The theatre has modern acoustics, video camera and generator facility.

Art gallery

The art gallery named ‘D V Gundappa Art Gallery' has been built in the basement and has 36 movable screens where pictures or paintings can be mounted for display. The spacious gallery has good lighting.
Both the theatre and the gallery consist separate space for canteen. There are three entry and exit points to the complex, including a special entry and exit point designated for senior citizens. There is ample parking space for vehicles too.

According to Basavanagudi MLA K Chandrashekhar the complex will serve as a one-stop destination for South Bangaloreans to hold cultural programmes and seminars.

“The rent will be affordable to the masses. People could contact the complex office over telephone for information on the programmes, once thrown open by the BBMP,” he said.
