Rs 330 cr to fill potholes

The BBMP has decided to take up repair of roads, which developed potholes due to incessant rains, at a cost of Rs 330 crore.

Palike Commissioner Dr S Subramanya said the resurfacing and filling up of potholes in roads close to 1,000 km will be taken up soon after rains. “The road surface should be dry to take up works. We have to wait at least for six days after the rains to start the work. Filling up potholes will be completed within three days. May be by second week of November, the Palike will take up resurfacing of roads.”
Mr Subramanya said the Palike will take up works on all arterial roads simultaneously.. “During the repair works traffic movement would be affected. The Palike requests the public to cooperate. However, signboards directing the public to take alternate roads will be put up soon after the works start,” he said.
The City unit of BJP has condemned the Palike for blaming rains for bad roads.
In a release, the party said the Palike Commissioner has blamed the rains in order to protect contractors and officers who are responsible for substandard road works.
The Palike had taken up resurfacing of works all major roads at a cost of Rs 150 crore recently.
