Heavy rains pound Bangalore

Heavy rains pound Bangalore
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Heavy rains continued to pound the City for the second consecutive day on Thursday. On Wednesday night the City received 79.8 mm of rainfall.

The rains claimed two lives and injured four on Wednesday. The deceased, Munilakshmamma (45) and her son Eshwar (23), residents of Bapujinagar near Gali Anjaneya Swamy temple in Byatrayanapura police station limits, were asleep when a wall of their house collapsed on them. Shankarachar, Munilakshmamma’s husband, survived.
BBMP commissioner S Subramanya visited the spot on Thursday and promised compensation of Rs 50,000 to each of the deceased. He told reporters that the mud wall was constructed without a strong foundation.
Residents of the area staged a road blockade on Thursday alleging that the Palike was responsible for the deaths. The Palike did not take measures to combat flooding in the area caused by a poor drainage system, they claimed. The residents alleged that deaths occurred when water gushed into the house.
Four people of Kumaraswamy layout were also injured when a wall collapsed. The injured are Krishnappa, Venkatesh, Madhushree and Srinivas.
