Bangalore: A flyover is supposed to ease traffic jams. But when it rains heavily, it is a mess on the Sirsi Circle flyover.
When heavy rain lashed the city on Thursday evening, there were traffic jams all over the city. The worst was at the flyover. Water-logging with outlets getting blocked forced commuters to stop vehicles, thus leading to a major jam.
Peak-hour traffic was thrown out of gear at Hudson Circle, Richmond Road, MG Road, Brigade Road, Vidhana Veedhi and Lower Palace Orchids. Vehicles had to go through knee-deep water on Double Road, Ashoka Pillar and Koramangala 80 Ft Road.
The downpour resulted in trees being uprooted and water-logging on busy roads. Some trees at Seshadripuram Cross and at BRV Grounds were uprooted, resulting in vehicles piling up on Sampige Road and Cubbon Road. Tree branches also fell at Koramangala, Jayanagar, Lower Palace Orchids, Sadashivanagar and Wilson Garden.
Major parts of the city, including MG Road, Indiranagar, Frazer Town, Malleswaram, Vijayanagar, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar and other areas witnessed thundershowers. There was a power blackout in some areas.
