Trees on chopping block get 'reprieve'

Trees on chopping block get 'reprieve'
DH News Service, Bangalore:

Scores of trees on Palace Road and Seshadri Road, which were to face the BBMP axe, can breathe easy as the civic body has decided to realign the proposed lane and make way for a separate lane which would not come in the path of trees.
The realignment is likely to save 60 per cent of trees on these roads.
“We have made a proposal to BBMP Commissioner K Jairaj, who has agreed for the realignment and a dedicated track for two-wheelers,” said Krishna Udupdai, Deputy Conservator of Forests, BBMP.
He said 110 trees on Race Course Road would be shifted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium on Raj Bhavan Road, while 52 will be felled.
On Kasturba Road, only two trees will be felled, he said.
