BANGALORE: Lakes in the city will be handed over to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for maintenance and upkeep, said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday.

Upset at the way Puttenahalli Lake in J.P. Nagar had been maintained, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that even though Rs. 3 crore had been spent on rejuvenating the lake, the lake still remained filthy.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the new radial road which connects south Bangalore to the Outer Ring Road, National Highway and Bannerghatta Road.

BDA Commissioner M.K. Shankarlinge Gowda said that the cost of constructing the 9-km road was Rs .20 crore. It would help solve the problem of flooding in the area to a certain extent.

Auction

On the auctioning of government lands, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that there had been no compromise on the prices. If the lands do not fetch good rates, they would be re-auctioned. The Government was willing to mortgage the sites if the sites fetched reasonable rates, he said.
