BBMP housing project for poor

A BBMP release said the CSMC has sanctioned Rs 70 crore for the project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).


The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation on Friday approved and sanctioned the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) urban poor project which will provide housing and other basic amenities in 13 slums here.
A BBMP release said the CSMC has sanctioned Rs 70 crore for the project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Under the scheme, 270 sq ft of ‘dwelling units’ will be constructed for each family with basic services like drinking water, sanitation, electricity and community centres for the integrated development of slums.
In all, 1524 houses will be built during the year in 13 slums, which include Ambedkar slum NS Palya (Ward- 65), Gopalapura slum (Ward- 25), Ambedkar slum (Ward- 78), Ambedkar slum (Ward- 79), Muniyappa Garden slum (Ward- 85), Indira Gandhi slum (Ward-68), Vinobhanagar slum (Ward- 48), RK Mutt slum (Ward- 49), Gowtham Colony (Ward- 72), Samathanagar slum (Ward- 69), Ambedkar slum (Ward- 71) and Anathashrama slum (Ward-78).
This is the second slum housing project under JNNURM; the first project in five slums covering 250 houses for Rs 14 crore is already being implemented in Kodihalli (Ward-73), Baksh Garden slum (Ward-30), Kalyani slum (Ward-77), Jasma Bhavan slum (Ward- 76) and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose slum (Ward- 6).
BBMP plans to build 5,000 houses for urban poor in the current fiscal. Preparation of project report for seven slums in CMC areas and construction of 1,900 houses is underway. The DPR will be submitted to the Centre for approval.
So far, 11 BBMP projects have been approved under JNNURM amounting to Rs 965 crore.
Further, eight projects amounting to Rs 300 crore have been submitted to the Centre pending approval, states the release.
