Road over Gottigere lake likely

Road over Gottigere lake likely
Deccan Herald

The Gottigere lake off Bannerghatta Road, that has been in the line of controversy over land acquisition for the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC), is in for another twist. According to a communication from the Project Co-ordinator of BMIC Project to the Principal Secretaries of PWD, Commerce and Industries, the State Government is set to denotify survey nos 104/2 to 104/7 from the acquisition for the expressway. This, in essence, means that the government will stick to its original alignment of the road, proposed over the lake.

Controversy had dogged the survey numbers, which the government was allegedly “protecting” from the land acquisition for a 41-km peripheral road that’s planned as part of BMIC. The corridor’s promoters — Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise — had changed the original alignment of the road and drafted a new one to avoid the road being laid over the 500-year-old lake.

The NICE alignment was rapped by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for “violating” the sanctioned road alignment. The KSPCB line was opposed by NICE company.
