Metro route now on the Web
By P M Raghunandan DH News Service Bangalore:
Answers to questions pertaining to Namma Metro are now just a click away as Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) recently uploaded the entire ‘Land Plan Drawings’ of the Metro Rail on its website -- www.bmrc.co.in.

Want to know where exactly the proposed Metro Rail would pass through in your locality and what would be its project alignment? Well, answers to questions pertaining to Namma Metro are now just a click away. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) recently uploaded the entire ‘Land Plan Drawings’ of the Metro Rail covering 33 km of both east-west and south-north corridors, on its website -- www.bmrc.co.in

Drawings of the proposed 33-km stretch are classified into eight categories -- Byappanahalli Depot to Cricket stadium station, Central College (Arts college) station, KSRTC bus stand, Magadi Road to Mysore Road terminal, soap factory to Swastik, Chikpet station, City Market station, Shivshankar Circle to Madhav Rao Park. These drawings are in PDF format and details like survey number of properties to be affected, dimension of each property, identification number, name of the owner and the present occupant are all there. The property details have been hosted on the website based on the final notification issue by the government for land acquisition, BMRC officials told Deccan Herald.

To access drawings, log on to the website and click on the Land Plan Drawings in the BMRC website. Choose one of the eight categories of your interest and you will have the drawing displayed on the screen. One can also download print of the drawings for personal use, officials said.

In fact, BMRC was compelled to upload information on its website after curious citizens began bombarding it regarding the project. The BMRC used to receive on an average 1,000 questions every day on the project. Besides, hundreds of people used to drop in at the BMRC office on Double Road, Shantinagar, to get their doubts clarified, BMRC officials said.

“Most questions are out of curiosity. People are eager to know the details as it is a prestigious project. There are people who are either directly or indirectly affected by it,” officials said.

The BMRC has proposed to acquire 600 properties (both residential and commercial) across the City, but the corporation has not yet disbursed compensation to the people, whose land it has acquired. The land committee headed by Mr P S S Thomas (to fix the rate for land to be acquired) has submitted its report, which will be finalised in the BMRC board meeting.
