Why aren’t you catching dogs, HC asks BBMP
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday sought to know from the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) why it had stopped the catching of dogs all of a sudden. A division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice B S Patil posed this question while taking on record, a report filed by the BBMP in which the action taken with respect to stray dogs was stated.

MP Counsel Ashok Harnahalli said the catching of stray dogs will resume once the three dog pounds are ready by the end of April. He also said that the Governor too had taken strong exception to the killing of dogs. During the course of hearing, the Animal Rights Fund too was impleaded as a party in the proceedings.

The BBMP, in its report, spelt out in length the amount it had spent on the implementation of the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules.

The report also said that three dog pounds were being set up in different parts of the City. Proceedings on the matter have been adjourned to Monday.
