According to BBMP sources, it was observed that the borewells within 100-metre radius of the stormwater drains were most contaminated.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, the Bangalore Development Authority and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board jointly submitted an ‘Action Plan’ to the Lok Adalat on Thursday after reviewing 62 villages reported to be affected by contamination of drinking water.

The Lok Adalat had sought the Action Plan following a report submitted by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. The BBMP roped in the three agencies to review the status of 161 borewells.

According to BBMP sources, it was observed that the borewells within 100-metre radius of the stormwater drains were most contaminated.

Industrial effluents were found to be flushed into stormwater drains without any treatment. The BBMP is planning to issue notices to the polluting industries.
