Just days after reviewing the city’s infrastructure when the plans on nearly 18 grade separators - most of them flyovers - were discussed, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday opined that flyovers cannot be the answer to the traffic chaos of the City.

He directed the officials to expedite the plans on the Inner Core Ring Road and also give priority to underpasses, instead of flyovers.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting called with regard to the townships project of the BMRDA.

Senior officials of planning, urban development and public works departments were in attendance. They included Urban Development Principal Secretary Lakshmi Venkatachalam and BDA Commissioner Shankaralinge Gowda.

The CM was of the opinion that even the proposed flyover at the Yeshwantpur Circle would be better off as an underpass.

The officials apprised the CM of the need for a common global consultant for the transport infrastructure projects being taken up by a cross section of agencies - BMP, BDA, BMRDA, etc.

“A proper and fixed consultant who can provide the services required for the shelf of projects is better than each agency working on its own”, Mr Shankaralinge Gowda noted.

Ms Lakshmi Venkatachalam meanwhile, reminded the CM that a proposal on Land Transport Authority for Bangalore has been sent for the consideration of the Cabinet.
