Thrust on infrastructure, civic amenities

Thrust on infrastructure, civic amenities

BANGALORE: Competing 100 days is purely statistical. Unfortunately, this organisation (BMP) is lethargic. Be it education, health or engineering, down the line, people are not imbibed with a sense of purpose.

All these Suvarana Bangalore celebrations and motivation programmes are just to focus on the attention on essentials and part of revitalisation of the organisation.

The BMP has gone through too much of stress and strain. My first task is alignment of the organisation with goal and objections to provide better facilities.

On roads

We are dedicated to provide wider roads for the smooth flow of traffic. A special officer has been appointed to overlook the road-widening project, which will cover 12 city roads initially.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy reviewed the road-widening project on Sunday. Acquiring of government land is already done and road widening will be completed in Dec 2006.’’

On hoarding

We have new by-laws, which are coming up. Basically, they will regulate the size of hoarding, height, distance and issues on placing them in public places. Once it is done, we will regulate and enforce it ruthlessly.

On storm water drains

Shortly, the Government will announce the new rules and pass an ordinance about the illegal commercial and residential property on storm water drains. We are better equipped this year for the monsoon, thanks to our officers and engineers for their admirable work.

In low-lying areas, terrific desilting work has been taken-up along with strengthening of the storm water drains, making sure these areas are well equipped to handle the excess rain water.

On citizens’ involvement

There is no point in harping about the past. Gone are the days, when one could walk easily on M G Road. Today, Bangalore houses more than 55 lakh people. They should strengthen our hands to provide better infrastructure.

Plans for Bangalore

Massive revenue drive and property tax collection has net in Rs40 crore. The new works will be taken up through tenders. At the engineering side, streamlining the new methods and practices will make sure that new works will be completed before September.

We will concentrate on project side emphasizing project management on the roads and flyovers. Apart from planning and executing the new projects under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), we want to implement integrated development of 10 markets in Bangalore soon.

Our Chief Minister has identified 10 markets in Bangalore and they will be developed. Forming Greater Bangalore too is in the pipeline.Thrust on infrastructure, civic amenities
