BANGALORE: Transport Minister N Cheluvaraya Swamy said on Wednesday that Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is planning to reduce Volvo bus fare by 30 percent.

Speaking after inaugurating the BMTC bus depot at Hebbal, he said that BMTC will soon place an order for 1000 Volvo buses, which were being supplied by Volvo Corporation at a lower rate of interest, on loan.

He said that BMTC is also planning to construct a bus depot every two kilometres of the proposed outer peripheral road. ‘‘We will construct 50 depots at 1,000 acre of land,’’ he said.

Cheluvarayaswamy inaugurated 10 ‘Mahila Vishesha’, BMTC special buses for ladies.‘‘We will introduce 25 buses in the second stage,’’ he added.

He also inaugurated BMTC hospital special mini buses. This will go only to hospitals like NIMHANS, Kempegowda hospital, Bowring hospital and Victoria hospitals from Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS).

‘‘Having obtained permission from the Health Minister, mini buses will be allowed to enter the hospital campus,’’ he said. He also laid the foundation stone for BMTC bus depots at Magadi road, Srigandhakaval and Surya Nagar.
