The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), on Thursday taught a lesson to the owner of a commercial building in Koramangala for dumping debris generated after repairing the building on to the road and side drains. They simply dumped the debris back into the premises.

Acting on a public complaint, BMP commissioner K Jairaj directed the engineers to take suitable action against the owners of Sunday to Monday, a complex in front of Forum Mall in Koramangala for vandalising the public property, a BMP release said.

The BMP engineering staff removed the debris dumped on to the public road and drains and dumped them back into the premises of the complex. Further, the owner was also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh for obstructing public movement and damaging roads and drains.

The engineering staff led by N Jayaram, joint commissioner (east), A K Gopalaswamy, chief engineer (east) and Somashekar, executive engineer got the debris cleared. The fine was slapped after ascertaining the extent of damage to the public property, the release added.

The BMP engineers also slapped fines totalling to an amount of Rs 58,000 on building owners in eight other cases in Koramangala limits on Thursday for not clearing the debris on the footpath in front of their sites. In Industrial Layout alone fines were levied on four persons. While Somayaji and Mazbaruddin were fined Rs 10,000 each, R Pratibha was fined Rs 5,000 and Jayakumar Rs 3,000.
