Showers bring respite to people of city from intense summer heat

Bangalore: The pre-monsoon showers, especially in the late evenings, have come as a break for the people who were reeling under summer heat of the city. The maximum day temperature touched 37 degree Celsius on May 2. Since then, the rains have brought down the maximum day temperature to around 33 degrees Celsius. According to sources in the Meteorological Department, the rains will continue for a couple of days more. Although the summer in city lasts from March to May, summer showers in May are not usual for the city. The sources said the south-west monsoon had reached parts of south-east Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands and south of Andaman Sea. The monsoon is likely to hit the State in the first week of June most likely.

Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed the city on Wednesday evening. The maximum rainfall for May was recorded at 33.6 mm on May 13. On May 17, the city received a rainfall of 23.6 mm. Bangalore Mahanagara Palike sources said that there were no major damages during Wednesday's rain. However, there were reports of tree fall from D.V.G. Road, Tumkur Road, R.T. Nagar Ist Main Road.
