EVEN as a large number of Bangaloreans continue to express happiness over the auto driving licence display system, a few have brought to light the problems associated with it.

Some passengers said that they had a tough time understanding the details on the display card as the information presented on such cards was only in English.

"I know to read and write only in Kannada. So, the information presented on the cards is useless to a person like me. Even if I want to complain about drivers, I won’t be able to," Shanthamma, a homemaker , said.

"The display card has only the RTO number and not the vehicle number . Moreover , it does not have the registration number of the vehicle as well," lamented another passenger Arun Kotari.

"If for instance, a driver commits a crime and changes his address, how will the authorities find him with the information provided on the display card," questioned Ramnath, a government employee.

When B BV VT T spoke to Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Saleem about the loopholes in the system, he said, "Before introducing the display card system, we had a meeting with the officials of the Regional T ransport Authority and the members of the Auto Drivers’ U nions. W e introduced this format only on a suggestion given by them." "If the display cards have to be in Kannada, then the licences too will have to be in Kannada," he added.

"If this system does not work out, it will be changed in a way that suits passengers," he said.
