These are among the host of programmes chalked out to mark the golden jubilee of the Karnataka High Court.
The golden jubilee celebrations with the theme- ‘Justice for all: Real and Speedy’ will be inaugurated by President A P J Abdul Kalam in the high court premises on April 7, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph said while addressing a press conference in Bangalore on Saturday. The valedictory function, to be attended by Chief Justice of India, will be held on November 4, he said.
To make the celebrations meaningful, all the judges of the High Court have decided to work on the first and third Saturdays from June to November to dispose of old pending cases. Cases pending for several years in every branch will be taken up, Justice Joseph said. In addition, every judge of the High Court will be asked to preside over Lok Adalats being organised by the High Court Legal Services Committee at least once in two weeks.
Justice Joseph said that lectures, seminars, workshops connected with law and justice will be held at the State and district level. In addition, seminars and workshops on media and judiciary, use of science and technology in administration of justice will also be held.
To create awareness and understanding among judges, senior lawyers and junior lawyers a dialogue will be arranged, he added.
Special functions to honour and felicitate former judges of the Karnataka High Court, senior lawyers who have completed 50-years of practice and a poets’ meet are among the other programmes chalked out for the jubilee, he said. A ‘run for justice’ will be held on April 8 in which judges, lawyers, celebrities will participate to create legal awareness, he added.
