Bangalore’s roads will now be inspected by renowned experts from the Indian Institute of Science.

The BMP and the IISc will sign a memorandum of understanding to the effect next week, Commissioner K Jothiramalingam said on Monday.

Replying to the week-long budget discussions in the council, the Commissioner said that the IISc would be the third party inspector of the quality specifications. “It (the IISc inspections) will be a very, very close scrutiny,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Koramangala 80 ft road, the first road developed under the World Bank-funded Karnataka Municipal Reforms project, would be ready for use by April end or first week of May, the commissioner said.

The BMP should seek to allot at least Rs 10 crore in its budget for the works it may be called to take up in the CMC areas, Mr Jothiramalingam said.
