Yaw(r)n for the day

More projects, more facilities
The Times of India

Bangalore: More flyovers, lanes for Volvo, revamping division roads. That’s the agenda on infrastructure in the next few months.

At Wednesday’s meeting of the Empowered Committee on Infrastructure, civic stakeholders chalked out specific problems and came up with solutions. Like dedicated lanes for BMTC’s Volvo. However, this would be restricted to the stretch between Madivala to Hebbal traversing the Outer Ring Road because there is no space on roads.

The BDA will also be roped in to do its bit for traffic decongestion. The PWD would be revamping division roads in Bangalore and chief secretary B K Das said funds would be released according to the progress of works.

On status of roads, the BMP has submitted a report on the progress made so far, specifically on the 18 roads in the south and south-east part of Bangalore. If Airport Road reports completion of footpath work, asphalting still remains, as with Jeevanbima Nagar where about 50 per cent asphalting has been completed. Prime roads like M G Road, Magrath Road, Dickenson Road have apparently met technical specifications in removing kerbs and cobble-stones.

On the private sector not responding with the promises they had made voluntarily last year, commissioner Jothiramalingam said a meeting of builders and representatives from certain IT firms would be called soon.
