N ew Delhi: Even as the Bangalore M etro ra tinues to be stuck at the level of a Group of Mini pending its clearance, Finance Minister P Ch has virtually heralded its start b y allocating Rs in the form of equity in his Budget.

The allocation is a virtual green signal to the project, and an indication that only the technical formalities are to be completed. The GoM headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar is scheduled to meet on W ednesday , to take a view on the various terms of reference given to it, including the gauge to be adopted b y the new M etro projects including Bangalore M etro .

M eanwhile during the present year , the extent of additional Central assistance for externally aided projects in the State P Karnataka touched a record Rs 926.74 crore, largest in the country , after Andhra Prades crore) and Orissa (Rs 1,106.42 crore).

The other major announcement by Chidambaram regarding Karnataka was the 4,000 MW ultra project at Karwar , for which the bids has already ed b y the Ministry of P o wer . The project to co public sector is part of the go vernment’s efforts po wer capacity by 33,000 MW in the public 6,500 MW in the private sector .
