Logo, ego ends up in ‘Go’

SRIVASTAVA SHUNTED OUT OF METRO
Logo, ego ends up in ‘Go’

"I had kept the Chief Minister’s Office informed about the change in the logo and its release by the Governor in Raj Bhavan. I had even mentioned it in my conversation with the Chief Minister. I do not think the logo issue has anything to do with my transfer." - K N SRIVASTAVA

It was as much a ‘logo’ clash as it was an ‘ego’ clash that led to the transfer of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) Managing Director K N Srivastava.

Enquiries made with BMRC officials revealed that Mr Srivastava had changed the logo without bringing it to the notice of Chief Minister H D Kumaaraswamy.

The earlier logo (shown in picture) was designed and approved when Mr H D Deve Gowda was the chief minister and chairman of BMRTL.

“There was no need to change the old logo since the metro project has been identified with the earlier logo for many years,” an officer said.

In case Mr Srivastava had a valid reason to change the logo, he should have kept the CM informed,” he added.

He also said Mr Srivastava had kept the chief minister in the dark about his plans to invite the Prime Minister and Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy to Bangalore for the foundation-laying ceremony.

“A bureaucrat should understand his limitations. After all, in a democracy, it is the elected representatives who have a final say in policy decisions. There should be no clash between the two,” the official added.

EXPERT-SPEAK

“Any change in leadership in a large infrastructure project such as the Bangalore Metro, will hinder the project’s progress. Mr Srivastava was doing a good job. It was wrong to have removed him from the MD’s post just when things were starting off.”

Mohan Das Pai

Chief Financial Officer, Infosys, and Member, Empowered Committee on Infrastructure.

“The work on the Bangalore Metro project is bound to be affected in some ways. Already the inauguration of the new office building is postponed. This is a tough project, it will be difficult for the new MD to get into the groove immediately.”
