Work on amidst protests

Work on amidst protests
Deccan Herald

The villagers in and around Jakkur tried to stop the Arkavathi project work on Monday.

The police, who were present at the spot, dispersed the crowd, paving the way for contractors to begin work. The protesters were the land owners whose lands had been acquired by the BDA for the project. They were demanding more compensation and sites of dimension 40x60 ft.

The BDA has paid compensation of Rs 11 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.

Referring to the present day land prices, the protesters demanded that the BDA should pay them Rs 40 lakh compensation along with a site.

The first phase of work (22 in package) involves road formation, storm water drains, site formation, cross drain, culverts, erection of stones for numbering, site area border stones, layout plan boards and signages. The BDA had expected trouble from the beginning and hence had requested security cover for contractors at the work spot.
