MOTORISTS passing via Anandarao Circle will no longer have to fear traffic jams, especially during peak hours, as the much awaited Anandarao Circle flyo ver will be thro wn open to traffic in the first week of J anuary .

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) commissioner M N Vidyashankar told BVT that with the opening of the State’s first ever fivelane uni-directional flyover at Anandarao Circle, traffic congestion would be reduced drastically .

"The new flyo ver , with a length of 365 metres, is designed to carry at least 10,000 Passenger Car Units (PCU) per hour and it will be free from signal lamps, enabling the motorists to zoom on the road," he said.

The project, taken up at a cost of Rs 27.6 crore by Simplex Concrete Piles (India) Ltd., was supposed to be completed on N o vember 11, 2005.

M ost of the work on the flyo ver , connecting Khoday’s Circle to old City Central J ail, has been completed. W e are waiting for a modular joint which has to come from Shanghai in China. The modular joint will enable to pro vide a loop at the JDS office which will help in filtering the traffic immensely . It also connects the Race Course Road, Vidyashankar informed. The road beneath the flyo ver could be used by vehicle users to travel towards Khoday’s Circle, he added.

The commissioner attributed the delay in completing the project to the truckers’ strike. "F ollo wing a strike by the truckers for 20 days, work on the flyo ver came to a grinding halt and shifting of the construction materials to the site suffered a setback," he said.
