Several railway level crossings in the City will be replaced by railway underbridges (RUB) or overbridges as part of a joint initiative by Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and South Western Railway to ease traffic congestion at the crossings.

Widening of select RUBs is also included, as done at Nehru Circle in Madhavanagar. Under this programme, Chief Minister N Dharam Singh laid the foundation stone for a Rs 13.6 crore Railway Overbridge at the Mathikere Cross-Miraj Railway Line junction, on Friday.

With cost sharing on a 50:50 basis, the project is proposed to be completed in 18 months.

The BMP is yet to acquire a part of the land belonging to KPTCL.

At present, the level crossing at Mathikere connects Bangalore-Tumkur section of National Highway 4 with the Outer Ring Road. The ROB will facilitate uninterrupted flow of traffic.

In the pipeline are RUBs and ROBs at Bapujinagar, Byappanahalli, ITC Factory and Ganagondanahalli, besides widening of railway underpass at Swatantrapalya.
