BANGALORE: Even as the BCC is under fire for its failure to maintain roads, the civic body has to face a hearing on a PIL on November 15 before the High Court. A committee constituted by the HC for monitoring and assessing the quality of road works in the City, will submit its first report on November 15.

On the PIL filed by former MLA K. Subba Reddy, the BCC had contended that incessant rains had damaged the roads, while the counsel for the petitioner had pointed out that its plea was baseless as the City had not received heavy rains last year.

THE COMMITTEE

The three-member committee, entrusted with the task of looking into the road works already completed, is empowered with an access to BCC records. To assess the ongoing works, the committee can visit the spots and get samples of materials The norms prescribed by the Indian Road Congress will be taken as a standard.

THE REPORT

Chairman of the committee, Captain S. Raja Rao, told this website’s newspaper that the first report will be based on the observations made during the last two months.

“The road construction and the repair work had been allotted in packages. The committee has selected some packages for the observation. We are examining at least two to three roads in each ward,” he said.
