Sankey tank awaits new look
Deccan herald
Sankey Tank, which bore a neglected look due to the slush and overflowing water until now, received a good deal of pampering on Saturday once the news of Chief Minister Dharam Singh’s impending spot inspection was flashed.
The tank area was a bee-hive of activities. Sweepers vigorously cleaning the roads leading to the tank, placing wooden boards to create a platform for the VVIPs arrival and making a sand-bed were part of the preparations by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, all for the sake of Mr Singh.
Sankey Tank, which was ‘restored’ by spending Rs five crore last year to create a tiled walkway for the residents around that area, was reportedly rendered waste following the incessant rain. Improper planning by BMP was also quoted as another reason.
Meanwhile, Mr Suresh K, a resident of Sadashivnagar for the past one decade, said that for the past few weeks the tank bed area which was tiled to be used as a joggers’ track had also been closed to the public. “Due to improper planning, tiles were also giving away following each downpour. Ultimately, the residents have to bear the brunt of it,” he alleged.
Meeting soon
However, Chief Minister Dharam Singh upon completion of the inspection assured that a meeting will be convened with the local legislators and officials concerned to check on the implementation of restoration work.
