"Mr. Murthy, we need you" : Bangalore

Mr Murthy, Bangaloreans need you
The Times of India

Infosys chief mentor Narayana Murthy’s resignation as Bangalore International Airport Ltd chairman is the worst thing that could happen. Looks like Deve Gowda has no other work other than blaming others who have done good work. I think he just wants to be in the news always. Mr Murthy, we know you well and you don’t have to resign; we know what you have worked for and you are working for the good of Bangalore. Bangalore needs people like you. — Vivek L K, Bangalore

It is disheartening
Gresham’s Law says bad money drives out good. We now have a similar situation in public life — capable and, more importantly, honest people being edged out of public life by wellentrenched politicians whose only aim is to further their family interests, and their only skill is machination. The likes of Sam Pitroda and Narayana Murthy will now think very hard before venturing into public life in India. This is very disheartening when two very highly accomplished professionals are the President and Prime Minister of the nation. Wrestling with pigs and reasoning with our political class seem to meet with the same results — one gets dirty, one never wins and the adversary enjoys the dirt and filth! — N K Raveendran, Bangalore

High time you retired
Mr Deve Gowda, what have you achieved by accusing Narayana Murthy of not doing anything? The great gentleman has resigned from the BIAL. In case you continue to vent your fury over IT/BT, the result will be an exodus of these companies from Bangalore. That situation will be bad for everyone. So Mr Gowda, you have done enough for the country. I suggest you announce your retirement from politics and spend time with farmers and your kith & kin. — Nagesh, Bangalore

Sorry, Mr Murthy
It is really unfortunate that petty politics led to Narayana Murthy’s resignation. Mr Murthy, though being a businessman, is committed to various public causes. The circumstances leading to this resignation will set a bad example for others interested in helping the government and people. The least one can do is to acknowledge Murthy’s contribution to this project. Since we cannot really hope that our politicians will admit to their mistakes or tender a sincere apology, we, the citizens of Bangalore, can only say sorry to Narayana Murthy and hope this will not deter him from continuing his good work.

Blame CM for this
It is sad that unscrupulous politicians have claimed another victim. His righteous indignation at the games politicians play is understandable; this is all due to our CM who crawls before Deve Gowda even before the latter asks him to bend.
— B R R Rao, Bangalore

Intolerable behaviour
Deve Gowda’s behaviour is becoming intolerable by the day. His only job seems to be to disrupt any constructive work and to criticise others. Narayana Murthy’s resignation is really sad. He did a lot of work for the airport. It is due to his efforts that the Bangalore airport is where it is today. — V Ankit, recd via e-mail

They’re like white ants
Unable to bear Deve Gowda’s constant needling, Narayana Murthy has quit. It is rightly said that an organisation gets the people it deserves just as the people get the government they deserve. Deve Gowda and his men are like white ants — they destroy good furniture on the quiet. — M V N Raj, Bangalore

Citizens are losers
It is indeed unfortunate that an eminent business leader like Murthy had to resign. Most governments consider it an asset and privilege to use the expertise of such captains of industry. The world over, public and private partnerships have helped create infrastructure that benefits everyone. But in Karnataka, due to petty politics and vested interests of local leaders, such a partnership has failed to take off. Ultimately, the losers are citizens of Bangalore!
— Sushil Mehra, Bangalore

Cheap publicity
Deve Gowda has no right to criticise Murthy who has done so much for Bangalore and brought name and fame to India. All this public debate only gives Deve Gowda cheap publicity. Let him retire from public life. — S Ramachandran, Bangalore

What a travesty
We are sick of daily reports on the exchanges between Dharam Singh and Deve Gowda. What a travesty! Their’s is nothing but an unholy alliance for their own aggrandisement. The common man now only wants to hear the ‘Gowda Purana’. — P V Maiya, Bangalore
