THE festive spirit and holiday mood was marooned as continuous rains lashed the City since W ednesday night. According to meteorological department, the City recorded a maximum rainfall of 17.5 mm while the Airport received 17.2 mm.

Following heavy rains, five trees were uprooted in various parts of the City resulting in traffic disruption for some time. A huge tree fell on Dickenson Road near Manipal Centre while another tree touched ground on CMH Road in Indiranagar . The huge branch of a tree came down in V V Puram. The fire force officials rushed to the spot and cleared the uprooted trees to enable free flow of traffic. T ree fall was reported in BRV Grounds near Cubbon Park, Sajjan Rao Circle and Pillanna Garden as well.

The continuous rains flooded the City roads and vehicles moved in snail’s pace. The huge craters and potholes on major roads in the City were filled with water and posed danger to road users, especially motorists.

Though the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) control room received no complaints of waterlogging or overflowing of storm water drains, BCC’s Prahari team and the CMC gangmen were pressed into service
