BANGALORE: Minister for Water Resources and Transport M. Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday asked officials of the new Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in the city to carry out their work without causing harassment to the people.

Speaking after inaugurating two new RTOs in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Electronics City, Mr. Kharge said the State Government decided to start the new RTOs considering the increasing vehicular population in the city and also to reduce the inconvenience caused to people coming to the present RTOs. "If you cause hassles and take more time, the purpose of opening new offices will be defeated. People in turn will curse the Government," he said.

The two RTOs opened on Monday are housed in rented premises. Another RTO will be opened in Yelahanka on August 29.

Mr. Kharge asked the local leaders, including the Uttarahalli MLA R. Ashok to identify land for locating the two new RTOs in permanent premises. Mr. Ashok said he would soon identify the lands and place it before the Government for approval.

The RTO in Rajarajeshwari Nagar has been carved out by taking parts of RTO Jayanagar, RTO Rajajinagar, some places of Magadi taluk. The RTO Bannerghatta, which is housed in Electronics City, covers Anekal taluk, Jigani and parts of BTM Layout.
