BANGALORE: Mayor R. Narayanaswamy on Monday opened a section of the underpass of Rajajinagar grade separator, which allows traffic from Sri Ramamandira Road end of Rajajinagar to Gandhinagar. The work has been delayed due to problems in land acquisition and utilities shifting, the Mayor said.

Mr. Narayanaswamy said the Rajajinagar grade separator project is likely to be completed in the middle of September. The separator forms a vital link between developed areas of Vijayanagar, Basaveshwaranagar, Rajajinagar and beyond with that of Gandhinagar and the central parts of the city.

He said that the works of the grade separator at the Rajajinagar entrance had cost an estimated Rs. 11.84 crores. The completed underpass will be 282 metres long, with 52.33 metres as the covered portion. The underpass is a two-way road, where currently vehicle movement is allowed from one side.

The Mayor said that an area of 2,740 sq. metres of land from Ramkumar Mills and 7,365 sq. metres from Minerva Mills had been acquired for the works. The grade separator, when completed, would become a major urban landmark, as it will connect important commercially viable areas of the city, he said.
