Metro Rail: Alternative track may be studied

Bangalore: Chief Secretary B K Das on Thursday assured traders and residents of CMH Road and Indiranagar he would collect details on Metro Rail project from RITES and study the feasibility of an alternative alignment of tracks through Old Madras Road as campaigned by the CMH Road Traders Association. Traders and residents of CMH Road and Indiranagar have been campaigning for relaligning the proposed first phase of the Metro Rail project through Old Madras Road instead of CMH Road as the present plan would entail destruction of at least 55 buildings. They fear this would lead to loss of business for them.

CMH Road Traders Association president Imtiaz Ahmed said if the project was realigned through Old Madras Road, there would be less destruction and the distance would be shorter and would benefit at least 25,000 economically backward people who are residing in ward No. 82, 83 and 85.

Meanwhile, the association members have decided to take up the matter with Union Minister of State for Programme Implementation, Oscar Fernandes.
