BMP lorries stranded, garbage piling up

The Times of India

BANGALORE: Following Thursday's protest by villagers over dumping of waste in their areas, garbage collection was affected in the western parts of the city on Friday.

According to garbage contractors, garbage could not be lifted because most of the lorries were stranded near Mavallipura. With police help, over 150 of the 200 vehicles, which were prevented from dumping waste in the premises of a nursery near the Karnataka Compost Development Corporation on Hosur Road, were allowed to dump there.

Sources in the BMP said Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam, who had called the corporation authorities for a meeting, convinced them to accept garbage for some more time.
